Using the Genius Multiplayer turbo trainer, we are running a 20.5km time trial on an undulating course. From this we compile a set of results for you and compare these results against other riders. The great thing with this is that you can also come back and compare yourself with your previous times as well. |
The competition will be to see who can ride the 20.5km course is the shortest possible time as well as who has the best power to weight ratio. |

Bring your bike, water bottle and towel and ride as hard as you can. (look to spend an hour per session) |
WHAT IS THE POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO? |
Cyclist have discovered that training with power is key. The more power you can hold for longer, the better the rider you'll be. |
Power is the rate of work done. Work is the hard effort you put into turning the pedals. The faster and harder you turn the pedals the more power you produce, the faster you go. |
A key indicator for a riders performance is what we call the power to weight ratio. It is simply the power you can sustain divided by your weight. The bigger the number the better the rider. |
For example a 100kg rider might be able to sustain 500W. This would give them a power to weight ration of 500/5 = 5W/kg. If a 71kg rider, Lance Armstrong on drugs for example, can hold the same power his power to weight ratio is 500/71 = 7.04W/kg. This would make him the better rider as proved seven times in the Tour de France! |
